Also, did you know that apples are a nutritional powerhouse? Some medical researchers suggest that apples are one of the healthiest foods. They are loaded with antioxidants, flavonoids, and dietary fiber. Isn’t it fun to give a gift that is not only beautiful and delicious but also healthy?

One more comment about the content of this  Farm to Table Gift Basket before I include a recipe in this posting for baked apples. Notice the canned peaches in the  Farm to Table Gift Box? Yes, I travel out to a Lancaster County, PA, to an Amish Farm to pick up these canned peaches. The cannery is right on the farm. The Amish ladies carefully place each half in the quart jars. Really, a work of art. Yes, we will include several recipes for these delicious peaches in the future but today let’s bake apples.

What do you need?

• 3 gala apples
• 3 T soft butter
• 1/3 C brown sugar
• 3.4 t cinnamon
• ¼ cup chopped pecans (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Wash and core the apples, leaving enough core at the bottom of the apples to prevent the filling from escaping. Mix ingredients together in a small bowl. Press into the center of the apples. Place in a 2 qt baking dish with ¾ cup of water in the bottom. Bake for approximately 1 hour until the apples are soft and brown. Enjoy!
